Software Maintenance Engineer (part-time)

Oldlee is an independent software brand based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We make software for screenshots, conversations, teamwork, video and travel planning. Once an app is out, the work doesn't stop: bugs to fix, new versions to ship, user feedback to answer. We're looking for a part-time software maintenance engineer to help keep our released apps in good shape. Remote, from anywhere. The team is small and you'll work with me directly.

What you'll do

  • Investigate issues users report: reproduce them, find the cause, fix what can be fixed, and explain clearly what can't.
  • Fix bugs in released apps and make small changes and compatibility fixes, for example after a system update breaks something.
  • Help with releases: test new versions, check the changelog, and make sure install and upgrade work.
  • Write your changes up clearly so we can turn them into changelog entries.
  • When a problem needs a bigger change, tell us how far it reaches and how long it would take, and we'll decide together.

What we hope you have

  • Real experience maintaining or building software, and projects or code you can show us.
  • You can read other people's code and don't mind changing things in an existing project rather than only writing new ones.
  • Patience when tracking down problems: you reproduce first, then change, then test your own fix.
  • You can explain problems and changes clearly, in Chinese or English.
  • If something can't be done or will be late, you tell us early.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Windows desktop software, or with installers and auto-update.
  • Experience maintaining websites or backend services.
  • You've written tests, or you'd help us tidy up our repeated test routines.

Terms and how we work

  • Part-time, fully remote, any country or region.
  • Pay is discussed based on your experience and the workload.
  • Flexible hours. We mostly talk in writing and set up a video call when needed.
  • We're a very small studio with no big-company processes or benefits. Which apps you'd look after and how we split the work is something we'll settle when we talk.

How to apply

Send links to projects you've built or maintained (a code repository, a portfolio or a live product are all fine), your time zone, and roughly how many hours a week you can give, to lee@eeoo.dev. Please say what you were personally responsible for in each project. We read every email.
